Kongsberg’s wastewater plant dates from the 1970s, and it’s full. Sweco Norge and Biowater Technology are building its replacement on the same tight site, hemmed in by a river and the E18. The new walls go up a metre from the old plant while it keeps running. Autodesk wanted a customer story showing how Sweco pulls it off – seven companies, one shared model, and a lot of Autodesk software.

Filming a building that’s still a model

In June 2025 we spent three days in Kongsberg. The site was at an early stage – more groundwork than plant – so the real building still lived in the model.

We interviewed four stakeholders from Sweco and its partners. Zinta Rize, MEP Engineer at Sweco, carried the story while her colleague Magnus Ingebrigtsen covered Plant 3D before and after the implementation Autodesk Construction Cloud. Frode Rindedal, Engineering Manager at Biowater, spoke about sustainability and the switch from chemical to biological treatment. And Håvard from Kongsberg municipality explained what working in a shared 3D model means for the owner.

The look was gritty and active – darker tones, a rich blue palette, and B-roll of lakes and water. Flying a drone in Kongsberg took real groundwork of its own. The town is home to major defence-industry sites. So we registered the drone with Norway’s National Security Authority and sent advance notice, translated into Norwegian, to the neighbouring sites.

Walking the plant in VR

We delivered the rough cut on 17 June, less than two weeks after the shoot. We cut in footage from inside the model, so viewers walk through the plant in VR alongside the engineers. Autodesk called that section "magic." We also opened the film on Frode’s explanation, added his sustainability story, and ended on Zinta smiling.

The VR footage travelled further than we expected. Autodesk’s Workshop XR team saw the film and asked us for a second video of their own, built around Sweco’s use of virtual reality on the project. One shoot, two Autodesk teams.

Sweco approved the main film in time for Zinta to present it at an internal workshop. We followed it with a written case study that Sweco, Biowater, and the municipality all signed off, laid out in Autodesk’s template. The new plant will serve up to 40,000 people and let Kongsberg start building again.
